Humane Leaders are Destiny Shapers 🌟

In my IT career spanning 24+ years, I’ve been privileged to have leaders who shaped me into the leader I am becoming. One commitment I’ve made for 2026 is simple but powerful: “Give people their flowers 🌸- don’t wait until it’s too late.”

Over these 24 years, I’ve changed companies and roles, and along the way, I’ve had leaders who profoundly impacted me. Here’s a glimpse of that journey – a humble abridgment of countless moments under their tutelage. Perhaps one day, I’ll write a book to capture the full story.

Phase I: George the Rookie 👶
Starting off as an intern, DANIEL OBAM, MBS, HSC. literally held my hand, helping me translate engineering theory into practical solutions in the Broadcast Engineering department at WorldSpace Africa. Daniel intentionally followed my growth and even guided my MSc thesis.

Later, as an IT Specialist at AVU, I met @JosephMagochi. The role immersed me in the Microsoft stack – Exchange, Dynamics, and more. Joe made the office feel like home 🏠. He saw hierarchy as accountability, not intimidation, emphasizing seeing each other as humans first, titles second.

Phase II: George in the S-Curve Moment 📈
After time in the server room, I shifted to a front-office role as a Pre-Sales Engineer at Indigo Telecom Ltd. Peter Gacheru was the boss everyone envied. He hired me with zero corporate sales experience, trusted my pitch, and gave me freedom to explore the SatComs market. Fridays became sacred team meetings for coaching, tough-client therapy, and course correction. 🎉 Birthdays were celebrated with equal fervor. 15 years later, most of the team stays connected – now via WhatsApp – a testament to his ability to glue a team together.

Phase III: George the Budding Leader 🌱
At World Vision International, Stephen Ciirah called out the leader in me. He lived the principle: “To whom much is given, much more is expected.” He believed in people’s capacity to stretch and achieve more with the right motivation. His lessons: define what needs to be done, provide resources, and remove obstacles.

Govi Pillai, my 2nd-level manager, embodied leadership as parenting. As a father of 3, he often referenced his challenges as a father as he guided his team from current state → desired outcomes with clarity and discipline. Govi was tough in the boardroom, tender outside it. Those who survived his training excelled. 💪. He epitomized that leading is to be vulnerable to your team, even if in measured levels.

Phase IV: George the x-Cultural Leader 🌍
Currently, I’m on an international assignment, working in a truly diverse environment. Prado Nieto has made this experience transformative. She encourages diversity in thought and practice, fosters accountability, and creates space for everyone to thrive. BRM coffee sessions ☕ are not just check-ins but moments to connect, reflect, and grow.

Thank you all for investing in me.
